Lawn mowing and trimming is where it all started! Owner, Ron, began mowing lawns on the side to teach his boys the valuable lesson of hard work. When the time came for Ron to retire from his day job, he started Clark's Cutting Edge with his sons. While you may not see Ron and Braden on a mower these days, they use their knowledge and years of experience to train every new employee that joins our lawn care team.

Our Mowing Philosophy

Your lawn's health is of the upmost importance to us! You may notice that we mow a little different than you're used to. Our mowing philosophy has developed from over 30 years in the lawn care industry and our continuing education with partners such as Purdue Turfgrass Science.

When we mow, we follow three basic principles:

We never remove more than 1/3 of the grass at a time. Removing more than 1/3 of the grass during a mow puts unnecessary stress on your lawn. During times when heavy, regular rains cause grass to grow at a faster rate, we may mow your lawn at 4-5 inches to ensure we are not taking off more than 1/3.

We never mow shorter than 3 inches. Cool-season grasses common in the Midwest such as Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue perform best at 3 inches (or taller). During the Spring we may mow more than once per week to keep your grass at a manageable, healthy length and not remove more than 1/3 of the grass. During periods of little to no rain, we may skip mowing your property if it isn't needed. Our technicians are trained to make these decisions in the field!

Lastly, we do not bag grass clippings. Leaving clippings returns key nutrients to the lawn and is actually helpful, not harmful. We also promise not to leave an abundance of cut grass on top of your lawn, as we know this is unsightly!
